The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
