News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

An Important Return to Panem

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
