Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
