Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club board as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
