One Chinese judicial body has sentenced a group of prominent individuals of a notorious Myanmar organized crime group to execution as Beijing persists in its crackdown on scam operations in Southeast Asian region.

Overall, twenty-one clan individuals and collaborators were convicted of scams, homicide, assault and various offenses, stated a official announcement posted on the court portal.

The group is among a handful of organized crime groups that became dominant in the early 2000s and converted the poor isolated region of Laukkaing into a lucrative center of casinos and nightlife areas.

Over the past few years they turned to scams in which numerous of smuggled people, a large number of them Chinese, are trapped, abused and obligated to defraud targets in unlawful enterprises worth huge sums.

Specifics of the Judgment

Mafia head the patriarch and his offspring Bai Yingcang were included in the several individuals condemned to death by the judicial body. Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojiang and Chen Guangyi were the other three sentenced.

Two figures of the Bai family syndicate were received suspended death sentences. Several were given to permanent incarceration, while additional individuals were received prison sentences varying from three to 20 years.

This family, who commanded their own militia, established forty-one bases to accommodate their cyberscam operations and betting establishments, government said.

Extent of Unlawful Activities

Such illegal enterprises included more than twenty-nine billion yuan (over four billion dollars; over three billion pounds). They also caused the demise of six from China individuals, the suicide of one and multiple harm, reports stated.

The severe punishments handed down by the court are part of the Chinese campaign to eliminate the vast fraud rings in the region - and issue a stern signal to further criminal groups.

History of the Families

These families gained influence in the early 2000s with the help of Min Aung Hlaing - who currently heads the country's military government. He had aimed to bolster partners in the town after replacing its previous warlord.

Within the clans, the Bais were "the most powerful", the son previously told state media.

"At that time, we was the leading in each of the political and armed circles," the individual remarked in a documentary about the clan, shown on national media in July.

In the same documentary, a individual at one of fraud facilities narrated the abuse he had endured at the location: besides being beaten, he had his nails yanked out with tools and a couple of his fingers amputated with a blade.

Further Accusations

Bai Yingcang is among those who were sentenced to death in the latest ruling. He has also been separately found guilty of organizing to traffic and produce a large quantity of narcotics, official sources reported.

Downfall of the Groups

The families' downfall came in last year as situations altered.

Previously Chinese authorities has urged the local government to rein in scam operations in the area.

Last year, the Chinese police announced legal actions for the leading individuals of these groups.

The patriarch, the clan's leader, was among the warlords who were transferred to Beijing from the country in early 2024.

For what reason is the state making such extensive work to target the four families?" a expert stated in the summer report.
"It's to warn individuals, regardless of who you are, your location, as long as you carry out these terrible acts affecting the nationals, you will pay the price."
